Abstract

The article “DDGI 2020 – Geographic Information Strategy for the Future” focuses on the development of a future-oriented strategy for geographic information and its role in the continued development of the geospatial sector. A clear geographic information strategy can provide a framework for improving the availability, management and use of spatial information across different areas of society and administration.

The article highlights the importance of treating geoinformation as a strategic resource rather than simply as a technical product. Geographic data can support planning, public administration, infrastructure management, environmental applications and many other activities that depend on reliable spatial information.

Particular attention is given to the future development of geoinformation infrastructures and the need for coordinated approaches. Standardized data, improved access to information and cooperation between organizations can help strengthen the overall geospatial environment.

The DDGI 2020 perspective also reflects the changing role of GIS and geoinformatics in a rapidly developing digital environment. New technologies and increasing amounts of spatial data create both opportunities and requirements for more effective information management.

Overall, the article presents geographic information strategy as an important foundation for the future development of geoinformatics and emphasizes the need for coordinated, accessible and sustainable approaches to managing and using spatial information.
