The use of geographic information systems provides new possibilities for documenting, organizing and analysing information related to historical events and places. In the context of National Socialist crimes, geospatial technologies can help connect historical records with geographic locations and provide structured methods for representing information about places associated with persecution and crimes.
This article examines the use of spatial information for tracing and documenting National Socialist crimes. Geographic locations can be linked with historical records, allowing information about relevant sites and events to be organized within a geographic framework. GIS-based mapping can provide a visual representation of the spatial distribution of historically significant locations and support the systematic examination of their geographic relationships.
The integration of historical information with geographic data can also assist researchers in identifying spatial patterns and relationships that may be difficult to examine through textual records alone. Digital maps and spatial databases provide a means of bringing together different types of historical information while maintaining their geographic context.
The article highlights the potential of GIS as a tool for historical documentation and research. By connecting historical records with locations and spatial relationships, geospatial methods can contribute to the documentation, visualization and analysis of information concerning National Socialist crimes and their historical geographic context.
