This article examines the use of geographic information systems for understanding social issues and considers the limits of representing social realities through spatial data. GIS can provide valuable tools for mapping patterns, comparing locations, and identifying relationships between people, places, and social conditions. However, social phenomena are often complex and cannot be completely described through geographic variables alone. The article discusses this tension between measurable spatial information and the broader realities of social life. It emphasizes the need to interpret maps and spatial analyses carefully and to recognize the limitations of geographic representation when addressing social questions. GIS is therefore considered both a useful analytical tool and a representation with inherent boundaries.
