The use of UAV-based methods in Antarctic research; [UAV-Einsatz für Forschungsfragen in der Antarktis]
Keywords:
UAV, Antarctica, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, GIS, Aerial Mapping, Geospatial Data, Antarctic ResearchAbstract
This article examines the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for research in Antarctica and the opportunities they provide for collecting detailed spatial information in challenging environments. UAVs can support aerial photography, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and the production of high-resolution spatial datasets. Such information can be useful for mapping terrain, documenting field sites, and supporting scientific investigations in areas that are difficult to survey using conventional methods. The article considers the potential of UAV-based methods to complement other forms of Antarctic observation and fieldwork. It highlights the value of flexible aerial data collection for geospatial research and the growing role of UAV technology in scientific applications.
