The development of digital technologies has introduced new approaches to education and professional training in geoinformatics. The article “Virtual Learning: A New Concept in Geoinformatics” examines the use of virtual learning environments for teaching geographic information systems and related geospatial technologies.
Geoinformatics involves a broad range of technical concepts, including spatial databases, digital mapping, geographic information systems, remote sensing and geospatial analysis. Virtual learning can provide learners with flexible access to educational materials, practical exercises and instructional resources without requiring continuous physical attendance in a traditional classroom.
The article considers how online learning environments can support the acquisition of both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in geoinformatics. Digital teaching materials can be combined with interactive demonstrations, software-based exercises and spatial datasets, allowing students to explore geospatial concepts in an accessible learning environment.
Particular attention is given to the potential of virtual education to complement conventional teaching methods. As geoinformation technologies continue to develop, educational approaches also need to adapt to changing technical requirements and the increasing availability of digital resources.
The article highlights virtual learning as an emerging approach within geoinformatics education and discusses its potential to broaden access to training, support independent learning and provide new opportunities for developing knowledge and practical skills in the rapidly evolving geospatial field.
