This article explores the relationship between geodata and virtual reality and considers how spatial information can contribute to new forms of digital visualization and interaction. Geographic data has traditionally been represented through maps, two-dimensional interfaces, and conventional three-dimensional models. Virtual reality creates an opportunity to experience spatial information in a more immersive environment, allowing users to explore digital representations from different perspectives. The article discusses how geospatial datasets can be used to construct virtual environments and how these environments may support planning, communication, analysis, and decision-making. Three-dimensional geographic information can provide users with a more direct understanding of buildings, landscapes, infrastructure, and other spatial features. The combination of GIS, 3D modelling, visualization technologies, and virtual reality can therefore create new ways to communicate complex geographic relationships. At the same time, successful applications depend on suitable data quality, realistic modelling, efficient processing, and interfaces that users can understand. The article considers these developments in the context of the future smart world, where digital environments and physical spaces are increasingly connected. Geodata can provide the spatial foundation for immersive applications, while virtual reality can provide new ways of exploring and communicating that information. The discussion highlights the potential of this combination for future geospatial services and digital planning environments.
