Abstract

This article examines the use of multi-level management approaches for addressing forest fires and the importance of combining information from different spatial and organizational levels. Forest fires can develop rapidly and affect large areas, making timely information and coordinated decision-making essential. Geographic information systems can support fire management by bringing together information about vegetation, terrain, weather, infrastructure, and affected areas. A multi-level approach can connect local observations with broader planning and management activities, allowing different organizations to work with shared spatial information. The article considers how structured management systems can support prevention, monitoring, response, and recovery. Spatial data can help identify areas with higher risks, support the planning of response routes, and provide an overview of changing fire conditions. Effective management also requires cooperation between authorities and organizations because responsibilities and available information may be distributed across different levels. The article highlights the value of integrating geospatial information into these processes and using digital systems to improve communication and coordination. Such systems can provide a common information basis for decisions before, during, and after a forest fire. The discussion shows how geospatial technologies can contribute to more organized and responsive approaches to forest-fire management while supporting the wider goal of protecting forests, infrastructure, and communities.
