Abstract

This article explores the use of artificial intelligence for improving road-related applications and supporting more efficient transportation systems. Roads generate large amounts of information through sensors, imagery, traffic observations, and other digital sources. Artificial intelligence can help process these datasets and identify patterns that may be difficult to recognize through conventional methods. The article considers how AI-based approaches can contribute to road assessment, monitoring, maintenance, and planning. By combining machine learning with geospatial information, road conditions and spatial relationships can be analyzed in a more automated way. Such methods may support the identification of damaged surfaces, changes in road infrastructure, or other conditions requiring attention. The article also highlights the importance of reliable training data and appropriate interpretation of AI results. Artificial intelligence should not be considered independently from the geographic context in which roads and infrastructure exist. GIS and spatial analysis can provide an important framework for organizing and interpreting the information used by intelligent systems. The discussion therefore connects AI development with practical road-management requirements and the broader digital transformation of transportation infrastructure. The article shows how intelligent methods may contribute to better information, more targeted maintenance, and more efficient decision-making while emphasizing the need for suitable data and responsible application of automated technologies.
