Abstract

This article examines drone geophysics as a method for exploring the underground and considers how unmanned aerial systems can support geophysical data collection. Traditional underground exploration can require extensive field operations, while drones provide an opportunity to collect information over larger areas with reduced direct access to difficult terrain. The article discusses the potential of combining unmanned aerial platforms with geophysical sensors to obtain spatial information about subsurface conditions. Drone-based surveys can provide measurements that are linked to precise geographic positions, allowing the results to be analyzed together with other geospatial datasets. This can support the investigation of geological structures, buried features, and other characteristics that may not be visible from the surface. The approach also creates opportunities to collect data efficiently across areas where conventional surveying is difficult or costly. However, the quality of drone-based geophysical results depends on sensor characteristics, flight planning, positioning accuracy, environmental conditions, and appropriate processing methods. The article highlights the role of UAV technology in expanding the possibilities of geophysical exploration and demonstrates the importance of combining aerial data acquisition with geospatial analysis. Such workflows can contribute to faster and more flexible investigations of the subsurface while providing detailed spatial information for further interpretation.
