This article presents the development of a data structure for heavy rain hazard maps and discusses the importance of organizing information in a form that can support risk assessment and communication. Heavy rainfall can cause flooding and other hazards that vary considerably across space. Hazard maps provide a way to represent areas that may be affected and can help authorities and other users understand potential risks. The article considers the role of structured geospatial data in producing and managing such maps. A consistent data structure can improve the exchange, processing, visualization, and reuse of information from different sources. GIS can combine terrain, drainage, rainfall, land use, infrastructure, and other spatial datasets to support the analysis of heavy-rain hazards. The resulting information can be used for planning, emergency management, infrastructure protection, and public communication. The article highlights the need for reliable and clearly structured information because hazard maps must be understandable and suitable for practical decision-making. Digital data structures can also make it easier to update maps when new observations or improved models become available. The discussion demonstrates how geospatial data management and spatial analysis can support more effective approaches to understanding and communicating heavy-rain risks.
