This article examines how Saxony's geological information can be connected with INSPIRE and broader European spatial data infrastructures. Geological information is important for environmental management, planning, construction, resource assessment, and scientific research. Making such information available through interoperable systems can improve its accessibility and allow it to be combined with other geographic datasets. The article discusses the role of INSPIRE in creating common approaches for spatial data sharing and considers how geological information can be prepared for integration into these structures. Standardized metadata, data models, services, and technical interfaces can help users discover and access information produced by different organizations. The integration of geological datasets also creates opportunities for combining subsurface information with topography, infrastructure, environmental data, and other spatial themes. Such interoperability is important because many planning and environmental questions require information from more than one source. The article highlights the practical work involved in adapting existing geological information to modern spatial data infrastructures. Data quality, consistency, documentation, and appropriate services are essential for successful implementation. The discussion shows how regional geological information can become more useful when it is connected to interoperable European geospatial systems and made accessible for a wider range of applications.
