Abstract

This article examines Building Information Modeling and considers the areas in which BIM still has room for improvement. BIM has become an important approach for creating and managing digital information about buildings and construction processes. It can support planning, coordination, documentation, and communication between different participants in a project. However, the practical benefits of BIM depend on the quality of data, the compatibility of systems, the skills of users, and the ability of organizations to integrate BIM into established workflows. The article discusses the continuing development of BIM and the challenges that remain in achieving consistent and efficient use. Connections between BIM and geographic information systems are particularly relevant because buildings exist within a wider geographic environment. Linking building information with spatial data can provide a more complete view of infrastructure, neighborhoods, and urban systems. The discussion also highlights the importance of standards and clear information structures for exchanging digital models between different participants. BIM therefore should not be viewed simply as a three-dimensional model, but as an information-based workflow requiring cooperation and appropriate processes. The article presents the continuing development of BIM as an opportunity to improve digital construction while recognizing that technical, organizational, and practical challenges still need to be addressed.
