Virtual realities say more than a thousand words; [Virtuelle realitäten sagen mehr als 1000 worte]

Virtual Reality, 3D Visualization, Geospatial Data, Immersive Technology, GIS, Digital Environments, Spatial CommunicationAbstract
This article explores the use of virtual realities and the ability of immersive visualization to communicate information more effectively. Complex spatial information can sometimes be difficult to understand through conventional maps, drawings, or written descriptions. Virtual reality provides an alternative by allowing users to enter and explore a digital environment and view information from different perspectives. The article considers how virtual environments can support the communication of geographic, architectural, planning, and other spatial information. Three-dimensional models can provide a more direct understanding of scale, distance, structure, and spatial relationships. Virtual reality can also allow users to experience proposed environments before they are physically built, which can support planning and discussion. The usefulness of these systems depends on accurate underlying data, suitable visualization, intuitive interaction, and sufficient technical performance. The article highlights the potential of immersive technologies to make complex information easier to communicate to different audiences. At the same time, virtual reality should be connected to reliable geospatial and model-based information so that the experience remains meaningful and useful. The discussion presents virtual realities as an important tool for visualization and communication within the continuing digital development of geoinformation and spatial planning.
