Abstract

This article discusses Intergeo 2021 in a hybrid format and considers the changing role of physical and digital participation in the geospatial industry. Hybrid events combine on-site interaction with digital access, allowing participants to follow presentations, communicate, and obtain information through different channels. Such a format can expand participation beyond those who are able to travel to the event location. The article considers the opportunities created by combining physical exhibitions and meetings with digital services. Online access can support wider knowledge exchange and provide additional ways for companies, professionals, researchers, and users to communicate. At the same time, hybrid events require suitable technical infrastructure, reliable digital platforms, well-prepared content, and effective coordination between physical and virtual activities. The development of hybrid formats reflects broader changes in the geospatial sector, where digital communication and remote collaboration have become increasingly important. The article highlights how an established professional event can adapt to changing expectations while maintaining opportunities for networking, product presentation, and knowledge transfer. Hybrid participation can therefore be understood as part of the wider digital transformation of professional communication rather than simply a temporary alternative to physical meetings.
