This article examines wastewater management from the perspective of protecting both natural systems and human communities. Wastewater infrastructure is an essential part of modern settlements, yet its planning, operation, and maintenance involve complex spatial relationships. Pipes, treatment facilities, drainage systems, water bodies, buildings, and population areas all need to be considered together. Geographic information systems can provide an effective framework for managing these different types of information and for understanding how wastewater infrastructure interacts with its surroundings. The article considers how digital geospatial tools can support planning, monitoring, maintenance, and decision-making in wastewater management. Accurate location data can help operators understand infrastructure networks, identify critical components, and respond more effectively to problems. Spatial analysis can also support environmental assessment by connecting wastewater systems with rivers, groundwater, protected areas, and other sensitive locations. Modern data collection methods and digital databases can improve the availability of information and reduce the difficulties associated with fragmented records. However, successful management still depends on reliable data, clear responsibilities, and cooperation between technical and administrative stakeholders. The discussion highlights the wider importance of treating wastewater infrastructure as part of an interconnected environmental and urban system. By combining operational information with geospatial context, digital solutions can support safer infrastructure, more efficient services, and better protection of water resources and the people who depend on them. In this way, wastewater management becomes not only an infrastructure task but also an important part of environmental stewardship and sustainable urban development.
