This article focuses on innovative GNSS technology for the precise surveying of water bodies in the context of flood protection. Accurate information about rivers, channels, banks and other water-related features is important for understanding flood risks and planning appropriate protection measures. Conventional surveying methods can require considerable time and may be difficult to apply consistently in areas that are changing because of water flow, sediment movement or vegetation. Modern GNSS technology can provide accurate positioning and support the collection of spatial data directly in the field. The article considers how precise positioning can improve the recording of water bodies and create a reliable spatial basis for further analysis. Survey information can be combined with geographic information systems to document watercourses, identify relevant features and support the preparation of flood protection measures. Accurate geospatial data are particularly important when small differences in elevation, location or geometry can influence hydraulic assessments and planning decisions. The use of modern GNSS equipment can also make field workflows more efficient by connecting measurement activities with digital data processing. The article demonstrates the role of precise geospatial surveying as part of a wider flood protection workflow. It also highlights the importance of data quality, repeatable measurements and suitable documentation. By improving the spatial information available to planners and specialists, GNSS-based surveying can contribute to better understanding of water bodies and support more informed decisions about flood risk management and infrastructure planning. In addition, repeat surveys can help document changes in water bodies and provide comparable information for maintenance, monitoring and future flood protection planning.
