Abstract

This article examines the role of satellite technology in agriculture and the development of value from remotely collected data. Modern agricultural production requires information about crops, soil conditions, weather, field variability and plant development. Satellite systems can provide repeated observations over large areas and make it possible to monitor agricultural land throughout the growing season. The article considers the development from simple data collection toward the practical use of satellite information for agricultural decision-making. Remote sensing data can be processed to identify differences within fields, monitor vegetation conditions and detect changes that may require attention. When combined with other spatial information, satellite observations can support more targeted agricultural management and improve the understanding of field conditions. The value of satellite technology therefore depends not only on the availability of imagery but also on processing methods, interpretation and integration into operational workflows. Geographic information systems provide an important environment for combining satellite data with field boundaries, soil information, weather data and other relevant sources. Such integration can help transform large amounts of remote sensing information into usable knowledge. The article highlights the growing connection between Earth observation and agricultural practice and shows how digital geospatial technologies can contribute to more efficient use of resources. Reliable data, appropriate resolution and timely information remain important requirements. The transition from data collection to value creation ultimately depends on connecting technological capabilities with concrete agricultural needs and decisions. An important future direction is the combination of satellite observations with local measurements and operational agricultural systems, allowing remote sensing information to become more directly connected with day-to-day farm management.
