Abstract

Geo-apps, Open Data, and remote sensing can provide an effective combination for fieldwork in situations where information must be collected and interpreted quickly. Mobile and web-based geographic applications can support field teams by providing location-based information, recording observations, and sharing results with other users. Open Data can add valuable background information without requiring every dataset to be created from the beginning, while remote sensing can provide observations over larger areas and reduce the need for extensive manual surveys. The article considers how these technologies can work together to improve the efficiency of field activities. A combined workflow can help users prepare field operations, collect georeferenced information, compare observations with existing datasets, and transfer results into further analysis. Such methods are particularly useful when field teams need access to current spatial information while working in different locations. The approach also illustrates the importance of interoperable data and simple digital tools that can be used outside traditional office environments. By combining mobile geo-applications, openly available datasets, and remotely sensed information, fieldwork can become more structured and data-driven. The article shows how these technologies can support faster information collection and more effective use of geospatial knowledge in practical applications. An important consideration is that field technologies should remain practical for users with different levels of technical expertise. Simple interfaces, reliable positioning, offline capabilities, and consistent data formats can make digital fieldwork more useful in real operating conditions and help ensure that collected information can be reused after teams return from the field.
