Spatial big data
Keywords:
Spatial Big Data, GIS, Big Data Analytics, Spatial Analysis, Geospatial Data, Data Integration, VisualisationAbstract
This article explores spatial big data and the opportunities that arise when large volumes of location-related information are analysed together. Data from sensors, mobile devices, transport systems and digital services can reveal patterns across places and time, but volume alone does not guarantee useful insight. Organisations need methods for data integration, quality control, spatial analysis and responsible use. GIS provides tools for relating records to location and communicating results through maps and visualisations. The topic highlights both the analytical potential of spatial big data and the practical challenges of processing, interpreting and managing large geospatial datasets.
