Urban Remote Sensing, Earth Observation, GIS, Urban Planning, Satellite Imagery, Land Cover, Spatial AnalysisAbstract
This article explores urban remote sensing as a way to observe and analyse cities from airborne or satellite data. Remote sensing can provide information about land cover, built-up areas, vegetation and urban change across large areas. When combined with GIS, imagery can be compared with other datasets to support planning, environmental assessment and monitoring. The reliability of results depends on image resolution, acquisition conditions, classification methods and validation. The topic highlights the value of Earth observation for understanding urban patterns and changing environments, while showing why remote-sensing outputs need careful interpretation before they are used in planning decisions.
