This article examines 3D laser scanning as a way to capture large volumes of spatial data quickly. Laser scanners collect dense measurements that can be processed into point clouds representing surfaces, structures and objects. Such data can support surveying, documentation, modelling and inspection, especially where detailed geometry is needed. Efficient use depends on planning the scan, managing data volume, registering measurements and validating accuracy. The topic highlights the balance between rapid data acquisition and the processing required to turn large point clouds into usable products for GIS and engineering workflows.
